First of all, thanks to everybody who came to the Roles welcome event last week. It was great to see so many people and new faces who want to be involved in Gender and Sexuality at Birmingham. I think it’s safe to say we’re going to have an interesting and eventful year.
Don’t forget, if you have ideas for sessions, want to get involved, or just want more information you can follow us on this blog, join our 2012 Roles mailing list by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, follow us on Twitter @groles, use the Twitter hash tag #groles, and like us on facebook here.
The University webpage for Gender and Sexuality is also being updated, and you can find information about forthcoming events concerning gender and sexuality here and join the university gender and sexuality listserv here. If you’re a researcher and would like a staff or postgrad page about yourself included on the webpage, please get in contact or send a us a bio.
Our next meeting will be Thursday 25th October, Week 5, 5pm, Location TBC. The session will be lead by Francesca Frascina. In this session we’ll be taking Spivak’s work on the subaltern as a starting point to discuss issues of post-colonial feminism. Any reading materials will be circulated at a later date – but don’t worry, you don’t have to read the whole of ‘Can the subaltern speak?’!
