University of Birmingham – Single Equality Scheme consultations

The University of Birmingham is consulting on a new ‘Single Equality Scheme’ in response to the Equality Act 2010

Students and staff are welcome to come along and have your say on the University’s draft Single Equality Scheme.

It would be great to have some reactions to these texts so that we can take this chance to make some constructive, critical points about university policy.

As points of departure we could look at:

– What language is being used in these documents? Is this appropriate and what theoretical implications might it have? re these problematic and why?

– The impact of a single equality scheme to replace a plethora of existing policies that relate to disrimination on different grounds

Would anyone be interested in going along to these consultation meetings?
