Conference – Sexual minorities on campus

Dear All

We are delighted to invite you to a one-day conference in Birmingham on 10th November this year.  The conference, organised jointly by the counselling services at the University of Birmingham and Cardiff University, is aimed at all in HE and FE who are concerned to address the needs of sexual minority students  on campus.  We hope to bring together professionals from a wide variety of services and departments – senior management, registry staff, equality advisers, counsellors, accommodation staff, chaplains – to consider practical ways of addressing the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students.

We have an exciting range of keynote speakers and workshop leaders, including:

  • Dr Robert Schoenberg, Director of the University of Pennsylvania LGBT Center
  • Terry and Bernard Reed, Directors of the Gender Identity Research and Education Society (GIRES)

Our aim is to build a vision of what ‘best practice’ might look like in providing safe and supportive campuses for sexual minority students, and to learn from pioneers in this field.  You will take back to your place of work ideas to implement in your own setting, and a fresh vision of what a truly inclusive campus might look like.

Attached is a flyer for the day which contains details of how to book, as well as providing more details of our programme.  The venue is Lucas House at the University of Birmingham conference park where there is good pre-conference accommodation and free parking available. 5834 Conference flyer AW

We look forward to welcoming as many of you as  possible to what promises to be an important and inspiring day.

 Warm wishes
